Everything a writer needs to describe Office Shrimp accurately. Use any of the text below as it is, and write to hello@dejansobota.com for anything else.

In one sentence

Office Shrimp is an iPhone app that reminds you to stand up only when you really haven't moved, because it reads the motion sensor in your phone (and your Apple Watch, if you have one) instead of running on a timer.

In a paragraph

Most break reminders are timers: they go off whether or not you just walked to the kitchen, so people who already move get nagged and switch them off. Office Shrimp counts the walks you actually take and lets them reset its clocks, so the number of reminders follows what you did. It can also remind you to reset how you are sitting, and, if you use a standing desk, to switch between sitting and standing. It has no account, and what it reads stays on the phone.

Key facts

  • Platform: iPhone, iOS 18 or later. An Apple Watch is optional.
  • Availability: on the App Store, free to download with a 7-day free trial.
  • Reminders: move, posture, and standing desk. The standing desk reminder is opt-in.
  • Lock screen: a live countdown to the next reminder, with a button to confirm.
  • Privacy: no account, no tracking, nothing leaves your phone. Full details in the privacy policy.

What it does not claim

  • It does not detect posture. A phone can't see your spine, so the posture reminder is only a reminder.
  • It makes no medical claims. Pain is a question for a clinician.
  • A walk taken without the phone or an Apple Watch can't be seen, so the app has an "I moved" button for those.

Who makes it

Dejan Sobota is an independent developer with a background in web design and development. Office Shrimp is the first iPhone app they have built, and they make it on their own. There is more on the about page.
